Life’s Alive!

Death and loss come crashing in,

Grief assaults in angry waves,

Life looks beautiful until

there’s pain.

Betrayal bursts in unannounced,

The floor has vanished in thin air.

What anchored hope so strong

is torn away.

Someone’s ignorance lashes out

words like weapons shatter dreams.

Future possibility now adrift

while silence cries.

Deep within still burns a fire,

Waiting only for the day,

When some glorious song arising,

Beauty is never far from hope.

Holding hands even with dismay.

Crushing pressure sculpts the treasure-

Head thrown back, wild hair flying,

Grief’s song’s swallowed up by this:

I’m not fearful, I’m all amazed,

Life’s alive!
